How was a Tesla 3 tour of New Zealand

Sat 21 Aug 2021

With the time in New Zealand and the Tesla 3 road trip test drive wrapping up how did John find the whole experience. What the video to find out.

For touring New Zealand there is no question that the car is superb, quiet, controlled. More so if the car is assisting in all the ways it should then you will not run into risks on the road expect perhaps a fake sheep but much less a speeding fine or other traffic infringement.

A big surprise was the belief that there would be a dollar saving on "fuel", in this case electricity. At about 11 cents to 14 cents (at the time of writing) per kilometre, that's about the same as compact sized car like a Toyota Yaris consuming petrol.

Looking for a downside, long days of touring and the sparsity of charging locations makes for "charge anxiety" on a scale much more than what we experienced with early mobile phones - Trip planning is essential to make sure you can relax and enjoy the day with a full charge and a reasonable distance to cover. Make sure you get the "ChargeNet" app to know how to charge your vehicle and where the charge points. Here is a story and video specifically on the subject.

Other than that, it's a question of just enjoying - You'll make some new friends as you travel and experience the wonderful NZ friendly hospitality, particularly in a post Covid NZ which which take some time to dial back up to the 3.8 Million tourists that the expect annually. At the moment there is a lot of open road, empty beds and plenty of room availability.

And to hire a Tesla Model 3 from Go Rentals - Well yeah, of course!

Look for more videos from this tour on the deja.vu magazine website and start with how to get started with a Tesla here.
