What is bareboating? - Edward, Charter Yachts Australia

Thu 04 Jun 2020

Ed from Charter Yachts Australia explains to John Nayler from Deja.vu Magazine, what the terminology "Bareboating" means.

"Bareboating" is where you take a boat with no skipper, the same as when you hire a car - with out a driver, though it is more like a camper van where you can hire dependent on the size of the group. Beginning from a small size vessel up to a larger size vessel. Catering for 2 up to 10 people, who want to explore the Whitsunday Islands and the Great Barrier Reef.

Some groups come along with an experienced Skipper, some come along with no experience within the group and this is where the staff from Charter Yachts Australia train the chosen Skipper from a 4 hour session up to a day session if required.

Ed says, "The boats and the experience is available to everyone". "We deliver a 4 hour standard briefing to the more experienced groups and a longer session for those who have little or no experience". "The first hour is confirming that everything is on the boat and that the Skipper can operate it,  the second hour is an area brief: navigation, visiting & parks information and the third hour briefing is where you practice applying all these skills, such as a mooring test, anchor test and a sail test for a sailing vessel". "We have a ‘duty of care' to our guests so we take the time to ensure that they are capable and safe on the water, we assess everything, meaning that a bareboat briefer has to be confident that the appointed skipper and crew chartering the boat can safely operate it for days on end". "This experience is open to everyone", says Ed about people who know something about the safe operation of a boat, who can orient themselves for the boat they choose and show they can safely navigate the waters of the Whitsunday Islands.

If you have been isolating inside the house for weeks due to the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic, then this is the perfect fresh air, peaceful holiday for couples, families or groups that you will experience. There are a multitude of activities to experience in the Whitsundays and the Great Barrier Reef: the islands, the stunning beaches, magnificent coral, cultural history, snorkeling, fishing, diving and even kite surfing if you choose. An un-spoilt island paradise awaits.

Intrastate travel is now allowed within Queensland, so come and experience a holiday of a lifetime plus you will be helping the Queensland Tourism Industry to get back on its feet. Call Charter Yachts Australia on (07) 4946 6666  or visit their website https://www.charteryachtsaustralia.com.au.
